Ford Motor Co. is increasing production of its Expedition and Lincoln Navigator large SUVs by investing $25 million in the Kentucky Truck Plant where they are built, the company has announced.

Ford has seen "surging demand" for new-generation models of the nameplates, including the 2018 Expedition and the 2018 Navigator, according to a release.

With the investment, the plant will add advanced manufacturing upgrades that include 400 new robots, enhanced data analytics that help the plant operate more efficiently, and a 3D printer that allows workers to make parts and tools more quickly and cheaper.

Ford has invested $925 million in the Kentucky Truck Plant, and has boosted production targets for full-size SUVs about 25% since the fall.
