Over the past 20 years, truck driver fatigue has proven to be one of the primary causes of fatal truck crashes. While there are many factors that contribute to driver fatigue, locating available overnight parking is an important in managing rest.

SmartParkingUSA now makes it possible to provide real-time parking availability information to truck drivers in a way that does not compromise the ability of the operator to drive safely. The SmartParkingUSA mobile application disables the ability to make inquiries while the vehicle is moving.

In the near future, SmartParkingUSA will also connect truckers to available spaces in advance of their journey through the reservation system.

SmartParkingUSA is a truck parking information system deployed in Eastern Tennessee on behalf of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) by Gannett Fleming. This FMCSA- funded project conveys real-time parking availability information for the rest area at Mile Marker 45 to truckers along northbound I-75 in TN.

Gannett-Fleming is announcing that stage one of the truck parking availability information system is now live. Stage one includes the SmartParkingUSA website, a mobile application for iOS and Android operating systems, and 1-844-SMARTPK (interactive voice recognition).  Truckers traveling through Tennessee can use the  website, mobile application, or the telephone number to identify available parking at the rest stop on northbound I-75 at Mile Marker 45 near Athens Tennessee.

Stage two, in about two months, will include an additional information on truck parking availability at Mile Marker 23 in Cleveland, TN on northbound I-75  to SmartParkingUSA . In Stage two, truckers may also choose to reserve a space at either parking area for up to 10 hours. This results in safer travel while meeting FMCSA’s hours-of-service regulations.

The SmartPark website is www.smartparkingusa.com. The SmartParkingUSA apps are available for download by searching SmartParkingUSA  in the Apple Store and Google Play.
