Navistar International is underscoring its commitment to the construction segment with an array of updated International severe-service truck offerings and a comprehensive line-up of ready mix concrete hauling products from Continental Mixers, all being displayed at the World of Concrete show in Las Vegas.

Navistar diesels in International WorkStar heavy-duty vocational models will get selective catalytic reduction starting in May, following launch of the Cummins-sourced system on the 12.4-liter engine MaxxForce 13 in ProStar+ highway tractors in April, the company said.  The engine’s top rating is up to 475 horsepower and 1,700 pounds-feet of torque.

Other new features for WorkStar include 96-inch break-away mirrors, 6 inches narrower than the standard 102-inch spacing, to minimize cab and door damage in low-speed collisions. The mirrors are available with remote control, face heating and with signal lights.

LED fixtures are now standard in dome and door courtesy lights, side turn and marker lamps, clearance lights, stop/turn/tail lights, and fog and marker lights.

A recently introduced WorkStar vocational tractor has a 107-inch bumper-to-back-of-cab dimension and a 54,000-pound GVW rating. Like the truck, it’s available with the MaxxForce 13 diesel engine with SCR.

Other features of the vocational tractor include a vocational bumper, set-back front axle in 4x2 and 6x4 configurations, 120,000-psi frame rails, Meritor 14,000-pound front suspension, and Meritor 40,000-pound rear axles. Eaton’s UltraShift Plus 10-speed automated manual transmission is among the options.

Truck and Mixer Integration

Navistar’s Continental Mixers subsidiary showcased its lightweight integrated mixer fabricated from a proprietary high-strength steel specifically formulated for concrete mixers. This design delivers a nearly 2,000-pound weight savings versus comparably spec’d steel mixers, the company said.

The lightweight mixer includes an optional ZF gearbox which integrates the hydraulic pump in the gearbox housing. In addition, multiple barrel sizes are available to meet customer requirements. The new lightweight mixers are available on both International WorkStar and International PayStar chassis.

Continental Mixers is featuring its trailer mixer designed for 12.4- to 15.6-cubic yard applications and can also use lightweight components from truck-mounted barrels. The trailer mixer is available with the International WorkStar tractor to provide an integrated product that’s ordered, delivered, warranted, and serviced through one dealer network.

The Continental trailer mixer features a low center of gravity to prevent spillage going over inclines and a hopper height equal to conventional mixers. In addition, the trailer uses Continental’s high performance load charging and discharging, as well as wireless controls and Navistar’s integrated Diamond Logic Builder system for ease in body installations and upfitting.

Continental Mixers has 29 dedicated dealers and 118 locations across the United States and Canada. The dealer network is extensively trained in sales and service capabilities for mixers, commercial chassis, and diesel engines while also offering all-makes parts support for these products.
