Ford

With maximum 11,300-lb. towing and 3,030-lb. cargo capacities, the 2010 Ford F-150 is offered in 4.6L 2/3V V-8 or 5.4L 3V V-8 (gasoline or E-85) engines. An all-new SVT Raptor "off-road" model is now offered.

New 2010 F-150 standard features include vinyl flooring on the XL trim level and the driver safety-monitoring MyKey system on XLT trims and above. Fleet-exclusive options include a plastic, drop-in bedliner, cruise control, and engine block heater.

Offering a trio of powertrain choices - 5.4L 3V V-8, 6.8L 3V V-10, and 6.4L V-8 turbodiesel - the 2010 Super Duty features Regular, SuperCab, and Crew Cab models. Newly available on the F-250 & F-350 Single Rear Wheel (SRW) pickups and chassis Cabs is a valve-mounted tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

Also new for 2010, a 19,500 Payload Upgrade Package, extended to all F-550 diesel offerings (including the F-550 CC 141-inch wheelbase diesel) and most gasoline offerings, includes an upgraded rear axle with rear GAWR increased 1,046 lbs. to 14,706 lbs.

The F-550 CC 141-inch wheelbase 6.8L gasoline engine remains at 19,000-lb. GVWR and is eligible for the 19,000 Payload Upgrade Package.

Available with both F-150 and Super Duty products is the SYNC voice-activated communications system with 911 assist, vehicle diagnostics, and turn-by-turn navigation. The Ford Works Solutions suite of technologies is also available.

The 2010 Ranger, in Regular or Super Cab configurations, is powered by a 2.3L DOHC I-4 or 4.0L SOHC V-6 engine with a choice of manual or automatic transmission. A 6-foot cargo box is standard on this compact pickup, with an available fleet-exclusive 7-foot box. New for the model-year is standard AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control (RSC) and front-seat side airbags.

Dodge

Continuing from 2009, the 2010 Dodge Dakota pickup offers a standard 3.7L V-6 engine with an available 4.7L V-8 featuring E-85 compatibility. A 5-speed automatic transmission is standard with V-8 engines; depending on the model, a 4- or 6-speed transmission is standard with the V-6. The mid-size Dakota features up to 7,050-lbs. towing capacity.

Two body styles, Crew Cab and Extended Cab, are available with four trim levels. Interior space in the Crew Cab reaches 37.1 cubic feet and 30 cubic feet in the Extended Cab, which also features a 6-foot-6-inch standard cargo bed.

All-new for 2009, the Ram 1500 continues in 2010. Power is provided by a 4.7L V-8 or 3.7L V-6, or a 5.7L HEMI V-8 engine that features fuel-saving MDS technology providing 390 hp and 407 ft.-lbs. of torque. Four- and 5-speed transmissions are offered.

The model's first Crew Cab version joined Regular and Quad Cab configurations in 2009. The RamBox cargo management system, available with the Crew Cab, includes weatherproof, lockable, illuminated, and drainable storage bins built into bed rails, a pickup bed divider/2-foot bed extender, and cargo rail system.

The 1500 provides 1,900-lbs. maximum payload capacity and 10,450-lbs. maximum towing capability.

In 2010, the Ram 2500/3500 heavy-duty pickups debut a Crew Cab model with a 6-foot-4-inch or 8-foot box, replacing the Quad Cab.

Powertrain choices include the 6.7L Cummins turbodiesel (meeting 50-state emissions requirements) with 6-speed manual or automatic transmission and the 5.7L Hemi V-8, mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. Electronic Range Select and tow/haul mode are available on both 5- and 6-speed automatic transmissions. A B-20 package is a fleet-only option.

Retuned suspension components improve the 2010-MY 2500/3500 ride and handling.

The GVWR has increased to 9,600 lbs. on the 2010 Ram 2500 4x4 Crew Cab diesel, while GCWR has increased to 24,000 lbs. on 3500 4x2 models and to 25,400 lbs. on 3500 dually models with diesel, auto transmission, and 4.1 rear axle.

2010 Ram 2500/3500 pickups are offered in Regular, Crew, and MegaCab styles, two cargo-box sizes (6 foot 4 inch and 8 foot), and single and dual-rear-wheel configurations. Dual-rear-wheel fenders are new on the 3500 dually.

New interior enhancements include redesigned seats with improved power lumbar and lateral support and a new available center console with storage accommodating a laptop computer and hanging files.

The new 2010 Dodge Ram 3500/4500/5500 Chassis Cabs compete in Class 3-5 segments with a GVWR of 10,001-19,500 lbs. and are targeted to fleet customers, small business trades, and traditional chassis-cab users. A new Crew Cab model increases leg room by 6 inches. Easy ingress and egress is assured with full-access rear doors that open 85 degrees.

The series offers best-in-class fuel economy with the 6.7L Cummins turbodiesel engine, standard on 4500/5500 models and optional on the Ram 3500. The engine meets 50-state heavy-duty emissions standards and 2010 diesel emissions standards with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology.

The 2010 Dodge Ram 3500 Chassis Cab comes standard with the 6.7L Cummins turbodiesel engine.

Improved standard features include a 6-speed manual transmission, electronic vehicle information center integrated into the instrument cluster, four upfitter switches, increased alternator size on diesel (180 amps), automatic headlamps, second-row headrests, and rear heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) ducts.

Freightliner

Freightliner Trucks introduced a new natural gas-powered truck, the Freightliner Business Class M2 112 NG.

The truck is powered by the Cummins Westport ISL G 8.9L stoichiometric cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) engine. Available in ratings up to 320 hp, the ISL G already meets EPA 2010 standards. The ISL G also features a maintenance-free exhaust system with a three-way catalyst. No further technology or after-treatment is required to meet 2010 emissions standards.

According to Freightliner, natural gas technology can save an estimated $6,000 in annual fuel and operating costs per truck, in addition to tax incentive benefits available in some states.

The Freightliner medium-duty truck line, Business Class M2 106/112 and M2 106V/112V, features a Mercedes-Benz MBE 900/4000 or Cummins engine with a full range of manual, automatic, and automated Mercedes MBT, Allison, and Eaton transmissions. Day, Extended, and Crew Cab configurations are available.

The 106V/112V models are designed for vocational application requiring PTO or extended front frame.

Promising up to 60-percent fuel savings and up to 87-percent idle time reduction, the M2 eHybrid features the Eaton Hybrid Electric drivetrain system and a Cummins diesel engine. Mounted equipment, such as buckets and lifts, run from an electric Power Take-Off (ePTO), without noisy idling.

General Motors

For 2010, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500/GMC Sierra 1500 range of 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.2L V-8 engines offer E-85 capability, while the 4.8L and 5.3L engines now feature variable valve timing (VVT).

In addition, the Silverado/Sierra 5.3L Vortec V-8 engine now achieves best-in-class fuel economy. EPA estimates the standard 5.3L engine at 15/city-21/highway mpg, while XFE models have improved to a 15/22 mpg.

A 6-speed automatic transmission is added to Regular and Extended Cab models with the 5.3L V-8. All 5.3L-equipped models feature a standard 3.08 axle ratio that enhances fuel economy.

Additional changes for 2010 include side-curtain airbags and seat-mounted side airbags standard on all models, a USB port included on all but base radios, expanded availability of the rear-view camera system, and two new exterior colors.

The 2010 Silverado/Sierra Hybrid's 6.0L V-8 engine is now compatible with E-85 and delivers all-electric driving up to 30 mph. EPA-estimated fuel economy for 2WD is 21 mpg in the city and 22 on the highway, while 4WD models have been upgraded to match the 2WD's 21/22 mpg estimates.

Continuing with only minor changes, the 2010 Chevrolet Silverado/Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD offer a wide range of configurations - three cab styles, three cargo box styles, and five wheelbase lengths. The work trucks offer many segment-best capabilities, including 18,500-lb. GCWR for vehicles with a gasoline V-8 and a 13,000-lb. conventional trailer weight rating. Maximum towing capacity is 16,500 lbs. when equipped with a fifth-wheel hitch.

The 2010 Chevrolet Colorado mid-size pickup series is available with a 5.3L V-8 engine on Extended Cab and Crew Cab models that enables a towing capacity of 6,000 lbs. The 5.3L now also features variable valve timing.

Standard on all Colorado models for 2010 are head-curtain side airbags. Three new exterior colors are offered.

Changes to the Colorado's sibling, the 2010 GMC Canyon pickup, include standard head curtain side airbags on all models and three new exterior colors.

Functional as an SUV, truck, or both, the Chevrolet Avalanche features an exclusive Midgate that opens to extend cargo-carrying capability from the cargo bed's 5-foot-3-inch length to 8 feet 2 inches. Standard powertrain is the Vortec 5.3L V-8, with 6-speed automatic, in 2WD or 4WD.

For the 2010 model-year, Avalanche offers a pair of new exterior colors and all Avalanche radios receive a USB port. A single-speed transfer case is now standard on 4WD models. (A two-speed transfer case is optional.)

Hino

Serving light- and medium-duty segments, Hino continues into 2010 without major product changes. Ranging from 14,000-18,000 lbs. GVW, Hino's Class 4 145/165 and Class 5 185 trucks are powered by a 4.73L diesel turbocharged engine, delivering 175 hp and 376 ft.-lbs. of torque. Transmissions include an Aisin 4-speed automatic on the 145 and Eaton 5-speed direct drive synchromesh on the 165 and 185, with an optional Allison 6-speed automatic.

The Hino Class 6 lineup targets city delivery, towing, and utility applications. Powertrains include a 7.68L diesel engine mated to an Allison 6-speed automatic or Eaton 6-speed direct drive synchromesh transmission. Standard features include air/spring driver's seat suspension, exhaust brake, 80,000 psi frame, and 52-gallon fuel tank.

Hino Class 6 options, enhanced in 2009-MY, carry over and include a 30-inch extended cab, and in the 258ALP & 268A models, right-hand-drive dual-steer sit down or stand up configurations.

Hino's Class 7 338/338CT continues with a 7.68L turbocharged diesel engine, delivering 260 hp and 585 ft.-lbs. of torque. Standard transmission is an Eaton 6-speed direct drive synchromesh, with an optional Allison 3000 6-speed.

Isuzu

Isuzu celebrates its 25th anniversary in the U.S. this year. New to the Isuzu 2010 N-Series medium duties is dual fuel tank availability on diesel models, increasing total fuel capacity to 63 gallons. The low cab forward N-Series is available in Classes 3-5, with GVWR ranging from 12,000-19,500 lbs. Powertrain choices include a 5.2L diesel mated to 6-speed automatic or manual transmissions and Vortec 6.0L gasoline engines with a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Regular and Crew Cab configurations make the trucks ideal for utilities, stakebed, refrigerated, landscaping, van, tow, and pest control application, according to Isuzu.

All Isuzu diesel trucks feature the IDSS built-in diagnostic tool. The tool generates "Vehicle Health Reports," productivity and performance data on engine, transmission, emission systems, and brakes, as well as fuel economy and driver operating habits.

Isuzu's F-Series remains as a 2009 model-year product, featuring three models, 7.8L turbo-cooled diesel engine, and GVWR range of 25,950-33,000 lbs.

Kenworth

Kenworth introduces the new T470 this year, expanding the company's medium-duty product range in the vocational and municipal markets. The new truck target applications include dump, mixer, winch, refuse, and other heavy front-axle vocational uses. With a GVW ranging from 33,000 lbs. to 68,000 lbs., the T470 is powered by a 9.0L Cummins ISL engine with 345 hp and 1,150 ft.-lbs. of torque. Other features include a range of manual and automatic transmissions, and 12,000-lb. to 22,000-lb. rated front axles, 21,000-lb. to 26,000-lb. rated single rear axles, and 40,000 lb. to 46,000-lb. rated tandem rear axles.

The remaining Kenworth medium-duty lineup includes T170 Class 5, T270 Class 6, and T370 Class 7 conventional vehicles. The models use PACCAR PX-6 and PX-8 engines. The engines will employ SCR technology to meet 2010 emission regulations.

Kenworth T270 and T370 diesel-electric hybrids are available in pickup and delivery, utility, and service applications. The T370 also is available as a hybrid tractor with up to 55,000 lb. GCW for local haul applications. The hybrids use a PACCAR PX-6 engine and an Eaton diesel-electric hybrid power system. Kenworth hybrid truck purchasers may qualify for a federal tax credit ranging $6,000-$12,000.

Kenworth now features a new AG210L single-axle 21,000-lb. rated highway rear suspension for T270 Class 6 and T370 Class 7 models. The new AG400L tandem-axle rear suspension is also available.

An aftermarket Crew Cab conversion option for Kenworth non-hybrid T270/Y370 models and T270 and T370 diesel-electric hybrids in pickup and delivery and utility applications is also available. Crew Cab options include an extended horizontal exhaust pipe, separate heater or heater/air conditioner, and exterior access steps.

A clear-coat finish is now part of standard paint application on all Kenworth models, providing enhanced paint quality, particularly in extreme weather and power-washing conditions.

Mitsubishi Fuso

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America, Inc. (MFTA) continues its full warranty package on all MFTA 2010-MY medium-duty trucks - including a bumper-to-bumper warranty (three years/unlimited mileage) and exclusive powertrain limited warranty - five years or 175,000 miles on FE/FG models and five years or 250,000 miles on FK/FM models.

The Mitsubishi Fuso five-year powertrain limited warranty covers the internally lubricated engine and drivetrain, and also bolt-on components, including the starter, water pump, and turbocharger.

In addition, standard equipment on all Mitsubishi Fuso 2010 FE and FG trucks will include door-mounted split rear view mirrors, helping provide drivers a full view to the rear, as well as an improved view of the road next to the vehicle.

MFTA's medium-duty cab-over product lineup continues from 2009-MY.

With GVWRs from 12,500 lbs. to 17,995 lbs., the Mitsubishi Fuso FE series models (125, 145, 180) are powered by a 4.9L DOHC four-cylinder diesel engine, mated to an Aisin electronic 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. (The FE180 offers an optional Mitsubishi 6-speed overdrive manual transmission.)

Wheelbase lengths range 114.6-189.4 inches, accommodating body sizes of 12-22 feet. The FE145 Crew Cab fits up to seven passengers.

The 4WD FG140 features a 4.9L diesel engine with a 5-speed manual transmission that includes a two-speed transfer case for rugged terrain applications. The FG frame also provides nine inches of ground clearance. Payload capacity is 8,206 lbs. with 14,050 lb. GVWR.

The largest MFTA medium-duty cab-over trucks, the FK200/260 andFM330feature a 7.5L, six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, delivering 243 horsepower and 514 ft.-lbs. of torque. Standard transmission is an Allison electronic automatic, with an optional 6-speed manual available on the FK260 and FM330. Wheelbase lengths range 145.7-253.9 inches. Body styles up to 30 feet are accommodated. GVWRs are FK200/19,850 lbs., FK260/25,995 lbs., and FM330/32,900 lbs.

Navistar

Navistar's group of vehicle families includes International trucks and Workhorse Custom Chassis. New to both in 2010-MY is the MaxxForce Advanced EGR technology, which meets 2010 emissions requirements.

An in-cylinder process that reduces NOx formation in the engine, Navistar's EGR technology requires no additional hardware, fluids, or servicing training. The technology is based on fuel injection advancements, improved air intake management, improved electronic calibration, and Navistar proprietary combustion technology.

According to Navistar, the new MaxxForce engines offer a 9-13 percent fuel economy improvement over previous engines.

The International DuraStar medium-duty truck accommodates a wide range of applications, including pickup and delivery, utility, towing, landscaping, and emergency vehicle. Available in Standard, Extended, and Crew Cab configurations, the DuraStar offers a range of MaxxForce diesel engines, delivering 230-310 in horsepower and 620-950 ft.-lbs. of torque.

DuraStar transmission choices include Allison automatic or Eaton manual and automatic. 

Other features include breakaway mirrors and a three-piece hood that facilitates quick and easy repairs.

International's mid-range diesel, the WorkStar, features Maxx Force 9 and 10 diesel engines mated to either a Fuller 6-13-speed manual or Allison 3000/3500 automatic transmission. Designed for waste collection application, the WorkStar can maneuver easily in tight urban settings. The DiamondLogic electrical system's onboard diagnostics increases uptime and provides programmable safety interlocks to protect crew and equipment.

Workhorse Custom Chassis 2010-MY specifications will be announced in October; however, no major changes are expected.

In addition to a MaxxForce diesel engine, the WorkForce W42 and W62 chassis models include gasoline-powered versions, powered by GM Vortec engines - a 4.8L V-8 in the W42 and 8.1L V-8 in the W62.

Designed for walk-in vans, the W42 is available in wheelbase lengths of 125-190 inches and 14,500-16,000 lb. GVWR. The W62 offer 157-218-inch wheelbase lengths and GVWR ranges of 19,500-23,500 lbs.

Nissan

2010-MY information on Nissan's light-duty pickups, Frontier and Titan, had not been released at press time, but both are expected to continue in 2010-MY without major changes. The 2009 Frontier is available in King and Crew Cab models, with short- and long-bed options for both. Electronic drive-by-wire throttle is provided by a standard 2.5L 16V, four-cylinder engine, with an optional 4.0L 24V V-6.

Also offered in King and Crew Cab configurations, the 2009 Titan features a standard 5.6L 32V V-8 engine mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission with tow/haul mode.

A wide range of feature packages is offered with both Frontier and Titan.

Toyota

The 2010 Tundra model offers an all-new 4.6L i-FORCE V-8 engine with EPA fuel efficiency estimates of 15/city and 20/highway mpg on 4x2 models. The 4.6L engine and an optional 5.7L i-FORCE V-8 engines are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Additional standard equipment on all 2010 Tundra models includes driver and front passenger knee airbags, height-adjustable headlamps, and a redesigned seven-pin towing hitch connector that sits above the hitch to help avoid damage during high departure angle driving. 

The 2010 Tundra's exterior design has been enhanced. Two new optional audio systems offer such features as auxiliary/USB inputs, navigation, value-positioned AM/FM/CD, auxiliary input, a backup camera monitor, and six speakers.

New 2010 Tundra Work Truck Packages feature vinyl seating and rubber flooring, available in Regular and Double Cab configurations with a V-6 or one of two V-8 engines, including 5.7L V-8 with a towing capability of up to 10,800 lbs.

The 2010 Toyota Tacoma will be a short, eight-month model-year; production began this past August.

With no major changes from the 2009-MY, the 2010 Tacoma provides several occupant convenience features, including the addition of remote keyless entry on Access Cab and Double Cab models. Floor silencer sheets in Regular Cab models reduce cabin noise. Other models include the Regular Cab and X-Runner.

The Tacoma compact pickup offers two engines, both with variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i): a 2.7L DOHC four-cylinder engine with 180 ft.-lbs. of torque that produces 159 horsepower and a 4.0L DOHC V-6 that delivers 236 horsepower with 266 ft.-lbs. of torque. An Electronic Throttle Control System with intelligence (ETCS-i) helps optimize performance and fuel economy.

The V-6 engine can be teamed with a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission. Four-cylinder 4x4 models come equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission and four-cylinder 4x2 models offer a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.

UD Trucks

In 2010-MY, UD Trucks light- and medium-duty vocational cab and chassis Class 4-7 product lines carry over from 2009. UD cab-over engine chassis accommodate a wide variety of vocational body demands including van bodies, flat beds, refrigerated, insulated, towing, landscaping, utility, and other applications.

UD's light-duty 1400 model boasts a 14,250-lb. GVWR. Medium-duty models - 1800CS, 1800HD, 2000, 2300LP/DH, 2600/ 2600LP, and 3300 models - range from 17,995-32,900 lb. GVWR. Wheelbase lengths offer a full range of 108.86-253.94 inches.

Powertrains include the MD-175 16V four-cylinder diesel and the MD-230 24V six-cylinder diesel. Standard transmission offerings include the Aisin 4-speed automatic with overdrive, Nissan diesel 6-speed manual, with optional Allison 1000, 2200, and 2500 5-speed automatic transmissions.
