Designed by the City mechanical engineer and built in 1899 by Akron’s Collins Buggy Co., the electrically powered vehicle cost $2,400. On level ground, it could reach 18 mph and travel about 30 miles before it needed to be recharged. The vehicle was equipped with electric lights, gongs, and a stretcher. The first assignment on the patrol wagon was to pick up an intoxicated man.
