Peterbilt Motors Company has announced that rear disc brakes are now available on its Model 579, completing the standardization of disc brakes for this truck.

Peterbilt introduced front disc brakes to the Model 579 back in 2012 to help increase driver safety and reduce stopping distances. The OEM said the addition of rear disc brakes will further reduce stopping distances.

Bendix ADB22X air disc brakes will come standard on all axles of the Peterbilt 579.

“Safety is one of the driving forces in our industry and we are continually evaluating how we can improve the driver experience,” said Robert Woodall, assistant general manager – sales and marketing, Peterbilt. “Combining front and rear disc brakes is a testament to our commitment to providing the safest trucks on the road.”

Air disc brakes offer precise brake adjustment, better force distribution, even pad wear, and reduced brake fade, according to Peterbilt. Air disc brakes are also ideal for fleets that require lightweight fuel-efficient vehicles.

By including rear disc brakes, Peterbilt said it is staying committed to safety and driver performance through meeting customers’ various application needs.

In addition to the disc brake standardization, Peterbilt said it has made significant investments and commitments to safety, such as adding standard options that include electronic stability control, Bendix Wingman, and lighting systems that increase visibility and headlamp coverage.
