Daimler Vans USA is issuing two recalls involving 1,320 vehicles, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

The larger of the two recalls covers 1,248 2016-model year Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vans and Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vans. In these vehicles, the bracket for the center support bearing of the drive shaft may not have been properly welded, NHTSA said. As a result, the bracket may detach and the drive shaft may damage the fuel system in the event of a crash. These conditions increase the risk of fire.

To fix the problem, dealers will install three additional rivets to secure the bracket. There will be no charge for this service.

The second recall involves 72 2016-2017 Mercedes-Benz Metris vehicles equipped with a blind spot monitoring feature that doesn’t work properly because the installed instrument cluster and steering wheel don’t support the function, NHTSA said. Dealers will install the correct instrument cluster and steering wheel to enable the blind spot monitoring system to operate as intended.

Vehicle owners can reach Daimler Vans USA at (877) 762-8267.
