Daimler Vans USA is recalling 17,501 2003- to 2006-model year Dodge and Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vans to address an instrument cluster issue, according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.

In these vehicles, the instrument cluster may fail to illuminate the brake warning lamp during the vehicle startup bulb-function check. This defect is out of compliance with federal safety standards. If the lamp isn’t functioning properly, the driver may be unaware of when the brake fluid is dangerously low, NHTSA said.

The vans at issue were manufactured from June 30, 2003, to Aug. 31, 2006.

DVUSA and Dodge dealers will correct the instrument cluster software, as necessary, free of charge. Van owners can reach DVUSA customer service at (770) 705-2070.
