The New York Power Authority (NYPA) partnered with Fairport Electric to create the largest municipal utility electric vehicle fleet in the state.

The Village of Fairport's electric utility district owns 14 electric-drive vehicles, including five Toyota Priuses, three Ford Escapes, a Chevrolet Silverado pickup, and a John Deere all-electric off-road vehicle. Fairport Electric's newest additions are an Altec plug-in hybrid bucket truck and a Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid sedan.

Both vehicles were acquired through NYPA's Municipal and Rural Cooperative Utility Electric Drive Vehicle Program, a $5 million loan fund. Since 2004, the program has helped 26 municipal utilities and rural electric cooperatives buy 55 electric-drive vehicles.
