Ford Recalls Ranger Pickup Trucks

Ford Motor Co. is recalling 361,523 Ranger pickup trucks from the 2004-2006 model years, so dealers can replace the passenger-side front air bag inflators.

The recall is part of the Takata air bag inflator recall expansion, which the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced May 19.

The air bag inflator, manufactured by Takata Corp., is at risk for exploding upon air bag deployment during a crash. After such a rupture, the resulting metal fragments might injure occupants in the vehicle, NHTSA said.

The Ranger recall is expected to begin July 13. Truck owners can reach Ford customer service at (866) 436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall campaign is 15S22. This new campaign partially supersedes a previous one (14V-787) aimed at addressing the problem, NHTSA said. The trucks in this recall were all manufactured from March 24, 2003, to May 4, 2006.

There will be no charge for the equipment replacement.
