Volkswagen introduced its Passat GTE plug-in electric hybrid at the Paris Motor Show that would initially be offered only in Europe, according to the automaker.
The Passat GTE is powered by a 1.4L four-cylinder TSI engine that delivers 154 hp and an electric motor that delivers 114 hp. Combined they produce 215 hp and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. The vehicle would reach 0-62 in "less than 8 seconds" and is capable of a top speed of "more than 137 mph," according to the automaker.
The Passat GTE can travel 31 miles on its battery without using the gasoline engine. Volkswagen will offer the front-wheel-drive vehicle as a sedan and wagon.
