South Florida furniture chain City Furniture is converting its 85 medium-duty delivery trucks to run on compressed natural gas in the face of rising gasoline and higher diesel prices.

City Furniture will become one of the first mid-sized private companies in the state to use the alternative fuel, reports the Sun Sentinel. The company formally debuted its own CNG fueling station on April 17.

City Furniture plans to cut fuel costs in half with the move, which equates to about $20,000 per truck per year. The first 51 CNG trucks should save the company about $1 million a year in fuel costs.
