The Dubai Taxi Corporation ( DTC ), Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) , has announced that it will require taxicabs serving Dubai airports to consist of uniform models. The entire fleet will consist of the family-size vans due to the rising demand for this type of vehicles which accounts for 75 percent of customer preference, compared to regular taxicabs. The move comes as a move to raise customer satisfaction ratings and respond to customer demands, according to a report at Khaleejtimes.com.

Mohammed Yousef Salih, Director of Fleet Operations at the Dubai Taxi Corporation, said: “The idea of unifying the types of taxicabs deployed in Dubai airports was initiated by Mustafa Mustafa Shalabi, senior executive of Special Services, in view of his daily work and direct involvement with arriving passengers, grasping a rising demand for family size taxi vans in Dubai airports. The idea was therefore adopted and the van-only policy was introduced due to their capacity to accommodate large number of passengers and baggage to meet the needs of families travelling from and to the UAE,” Mohammed Yousef Salih, Director of Fleet Operations at the Dubai Taxi Corporation, said in the Khaleejtimes.com article, explaining the rationale for the requirement.

According to the report, there are 350 taxi vans deployed at Dubai airports, serving arriving passengers around the clock.
