Average national diesel prices have been relatively stable since their early May drop.

National average diesel fuel prices were $2.42 per gallon as of Sept. 14, 2020, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). This is an approximately 2-cent rise from the previous week with overall national average prices still down around 37 cents per gallon compared to same time last year. Prices have remained relatively stable since early May.

So far in 2020, a peak of $3.08 occured the week of Jan. 6 and diesel prices have, on average, declined since then. National average gasoline prices are experiencing a gradual rise, according to the EIA, but still below early March prices. 

Current average diesel prices by region have decreased week-over-week and all regional average diesel prices are still down year-over-year, according to the EIA:

  • East Coast: $2.50
  • Midwest: $2.31
  • Gulf Coast: $2.17
  • Rocky Mountains: $2.37
  • West Coast: $2.96
