Toyota's RAV4 was the first compact SUV in the U.S. market when it arrived in the early 1990s. For 2017, the RAV4 adds the Toyota Safety Sense package on all trim levels. It runs on a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that's paired to 6-speed transmission. The roomy compact SUV offers 38.4 cu-ft. of trunk space, and 73.4 cu-ft. with the seats down. The PHEV version of Chrysler's new minivan looks sleek and a bit futuristic.
At 203.8 feet in length, it's about an inch longer than the Town and Country.
The base model retails for $44,995, while our test van would sell for $47,885.

The 2017 Fleet Safety Conference opened Tuesday with a keynote from the National Safety Council's Deborah Hersman, who also spoke on Monday at an NTSB-NSC roundtable about advanced driver assistance systems. Safety awards were given at a luncheon. The second day of the conference featured a session from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security - TSA regarding security threats against transportation fleets.
