The Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission approved a motion to explore issues related to the operation of third-party electric vehicle charging stations.

According to a release, the motion was passed due to the increased use of electric vehicles (EVs), and inevitable increase in EV charging stations, which are managed in a variety of ways. The commission hopes to clarify whether any restrictions should be placed on the way utilities and third-party companies offer these charging stations, and whether electric distribution companies should adopt specific tariff provisions.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that there are 723 EV charging stations in the state of Pennsylvania, and 3,600 registered EVs were registered in the state in 2016.
