Athens Gas Department (Ala.) deployed Trimble's network information system (NIS) to improve its overall operations. The system is designed specifically for energy utilities, and collects all asset data to create a comprehensive network model for support of engineering analysis.

The utility hopes that the new system will help improve not only operations and maintenance, but also capital improvement planning and customer service. It will also play an important role in the utility's regulatory compliance programs.

One main feature of the NIS system is its ability to work both in the office and on the field, allowing management to better communicate with employees on the field for more effective maintenance. Athens Gas will integrate NIS with its existing back-office systems, including a customer information system and automated vehicle location.

Trimble's network information system is designed specifically for energy utilities' business operations. The system includes tools for designing work orders, assembly tracking, and reporting assist. It collects asset data to create a comprehensive network model so utilities can keep track of all assets more easily.
