Austin Utilities (Minn.) opened its new Service and Operations Center to the public, which combines the utility's three sites into one main facility. Austin Utilities expects to save $2.5 million over the next 10 years with the new center, which solves several safety and regulation issues that the old sites faced.

The new center also offers more space for the utilities mechanic, with two vehicle lifts for trucks of varying sizes, reports the Austin Daily Herald. One side of the dispatch center is fitted for the gas and the other for electric, allowing the center to better organize projects and respond to emergencies in a coordinated manner.
