The U.S. Postal Service's fleet of delivery vehicles could be equipped with sensors to help gather data about air quality, road conditions, and traffic as part of the federal government's "smart cities" initiative, Postmaster General Megan Brennan told a Senate committee.

During the hearing, Brennan also discussed the postal service's mounting pension obligations, the need to raise rates, active discussions to deliver grocery items, and other topics, reports the Federal Times.
