Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than 50,000 vehicles in North America – including the Ford Transit Connect, Focus, Edge, Escape and Fiesta – so dealers can replace their fuel delivery modules.

The problem stems from improper nickel-plating of components within the fuel pump. If the fuel pump seizes, the vehicle will not start. If the pump fails when the engine is already running, the vehicle will stall.

Ford said it is aware of one alleged accident related to this problem.

The recall affects a total of 50,157 2014 model-year Ford Focus, Edge, Escape and Transit Connect vehicles and 2014-2015 Ford Fiesta vehicles in North America.

A total of 45,505 of the recalled vehicles are in the U.S. and federalized territories, Ford said, and 4,618 are in Canada. The remaining 34 are in Mexico.

Vehicle owners will not be charged for the recall repair service.
