Ford sold more vans in January than any other January since 2001 on the strength of its new 2015 Transit full-size van and redesigned Transit Connect compact van, Ford announced.

In January, Ford sold 13,777 vans, a number that also includes E-Series vans and cutaways. The Transit remained the top-selling full-size van for the third consecutive month in January, according to Ford.

Ford also increased Transit Connect sales by 72 percent compared to a year ago with 3,689 of those vehicles. Ford included the cargo and passenger versions in its numbers.

Ford is also reporting strong sales of its 2015 F-150 aluminum pickup, which is averaging 12 days on dealer lots, according to Ford. The Platinum and King Ranch F-150 models are averaging nine and 10 days on dealer lots.

Ford also increased sales of its Escape compact SUV by 3 percent. The Escape had its best January since 2005 with 14,995 units sold. Fleets added 65,918 Escape SUVs in 2013, including 31,434 to commercial fleets.
