Hector Hoyt, the former San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) employee accused of running over a 54-year-old homeless pedestrian with his utility truck on Jan. 6 and fleeing the scene, was ordered Nov. 17 to complete six months on electronic monitoring and was placed on probation for three years, according to U-T San Diego.
Hoyt pleaded guilty Sept. 3 to felony hit-and-run driving in the death of 54-year-old Robert Fisher and originally faced a sentence of up to three years in prison, the District Attorney’s Office had said.
As a condition of his probation, El Cajon Superior Court Judge Laura Halgren also ordered Hoyt to complete 20 hours of public work service.
Hoyt, who was off-duty when the incident occurred, had originally pleaded not guilty during his Jan. 30 arraignment. The trial was scheduled to begin Sept. 3, but instead he ended up pleading guilty to one felony count of hit and run – leaving the scene of an accident where a fatality or injury was involved.
SDG&E cut ties with Hoyt shortly after his arrest on Jan. 22, stating that he was no longer an employee with the company.
