Each year nationwide, vehicle-related road debris causes approximately 25,000 crashes and 80-90 fatalities, the AAA Foundation estimates. Unsecured cargo can easily become a lethal hazard if it’s hurled from the truck bed while the vehicle is traveling at a high speed. Roughly 63% of fatal crashes involving vehicle-related road debris occur on roads with speed limits of 55 mph or higher, compared with 27% of fatal crashes overall, the AAA Foundation said.
