WASHINGTON - Truck tonnage declined less than one-half-percent in October, the last month for which tonnage numbers were available, according to the American Trucking Associations (ATA).

Year-over-year, tonnage fell 5.2 percent, which the ATA says is the "best year-over-year showing since November 2008."

ATA Chief Economist Bob Costello says the latest tonnage index reflects "an economic recovery that is still trying to regain balance... the economy is behaving as expected, with starts and stops. This is being reflected in truck tonnage, as well as most economic indicators."
