SEATTLE – Red Dot Corp. announced that Glacier Bay Inc.’s ClimaCab all-electric climate-control system for commercial vehicles will be available to its network of warehouse distributors starting February 2009.

ClimaCab is a battery-powered HVAC system that combines the savings and environmental benefits of an electric system with the cooling performance of a diesel auxiliary power unit. It provides 10 consecutive hours of 8,000 BTUs/hr of cab and sleeper cooling, and quietly and efficiently generates heat from a radiant panel.

“With tighter restrictions on idling and the unpredictable cost of fuel, more truck owners are looking for a durable, high-performance all-electric HVAC solution,” said Robert Gardiner, marketing manager, Red Dot.

ClimaCab installs quickly and cleanly with no ducting, according to the manufacturer. It has just five components:

  1. A power management module that optimizes battery charge while minimizing power drain.
  2. An evaporator that varies fan speed for optimal comfort.
  3. A condenser.
  4. Touch-screen control.
  5. A battery bank mounting platform for four deep-cycle AGM batteries. The system recharges the batteries during normal truck operation and is compatible with 135-amp alternators, providing comfort even in the harshest environments. Together, the components weigh 193 pounds, not including batteries.

“ClimaCab fits right in with the HVAC systems and components that Red Dot offers,” Gardiner said. “Its clean installation, longer run times, minimal maintenance, and faster return on investment than fuel-fired APUs make this a great addition to our catalog of products.”
