AKRON, OHIO – Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. offered exchanges Friday for certain tires sold for use with minivans and small trucks, but insisted the decision is not a recall, according to the Web site http://canadianpress.goggle.com. Goodyear believes that some of these tires under adverse conditions can have tread separation. It offered to exchange P215/70R14 tires sold under 23 private label names, including Douglas, Kelly, Mohave, and Republic, in the United States and Canada.

Goodyear estimated that approximately 400,000 of the replacement tires made from 2003 to 2006 might be in use. The exchange is not a recall because no design or manufacturing defect was found in the tire, said Sim Ford, manager of Goodyear’s government and customer compliance.

“This precautionary campaign is in response to our internal analysis and review of early warning data we monitor on our tires,” Ford said in a prepared statement.

Goodyear is offering its Regatta 2 all-season radial in exchange.
