WASHINGTON, IOWA – A semi-trailer truck driver involved in a collision that killed an Iowa City girl last week was charged today with driving without a valid license, according to the Web site www.gazetteonline.com. The charge, filed against Rick A. Gerot, 44, of Ainsworth, is a misdemeanor punishable by $100 fine. It was in records filed in Washington County District Court.

Cassidy Flowers, 9, of 1434 Oaklawn Ave., Iowa City, died after the minivan her father, Thomas Flowers, 55, of Iowa City, was driving and Gerot’s semi-trailer truck collided about 8 a.m. on Highway 218 southeast of Riverside on Aug. 16.

Cassidy and Thomas Flowers were transported to University Hospitals where Cassidy was pronounced dead. The hospital would not release information about Thomas Flowers’ condition.

Washington County Attorney Barb Edmondson said she wasn’t aware today of any other forthcoming charges in the case. Iowa State Patrol officers continue to investigate the accident.
