CHICAGO – Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC’s (BFNT) Greatec wide-base medium truck tires now contain the company’s proprietary Turn-In Ply (T.I.P.) bead technology, according to Modern Tire Dealer magazine.

“With each revolution of a tire, the sidewall flexes in and out, increasing heat build-up,” said BFNT officials. “If a tire is underinflated or overloaded, the heat build-up is extreme and the end of the body ply can separate from the rubber surrounding it.”

T.I.P. technology removes the ply from harm’s way by wrapping it around the bead bundle.

The design also reduces the number of additional nylon chafers needed to protect the bead structure, the report said.
