COLUMBUS, IN – Cummins, Inc. was awarded a contract for the supply of 1,400 Cummins Euro IV diesel engines and 250 Cummins Westport Euro III compressed natural gas engines by Beijing Public Transport Holdings Ltd. for Beijing’s transit buses, according to the Web site www.rttnews.com. The orders are reportedly a part of Beijing’s preparation for the 2008 Summer Olympic games.

The order indicates that Cummins and Cummins Westport, a joint venture of Cummins and Westport Innovations, will power more than 13,000 of Beijing Public Transport’s 24,000 bus fleet. Cummins said the company had 13 factories in China and is the largest supplier to China’s Euro III/IV diesel bus engine market and natural gas transit bus engine sector.
