ALEXANDRIA, VA – In a letter to the Federal Motor Carrier Administration (FMCSA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Trucking, Renting, and Leasing Association (TRALA) urged support for a petition from the American Trucking Associations (ATA) asking the agencies to consider the new safety-oriented rule requires 68 mph speed limiters on new trucks. TRALA supports the increased dialogue and exchange of information on this important safety issue that would be generated by the rulemaking process.

TRALA emphasized to both FMCSA and NHTSA the importance of limiting any installation requirement to new trucks with a GVWR of more than 26,000 pounds. Mandating equipment retrofits for on-road trucks is a problem for lessors and their customers who may be forced to renegotiate lease terms based on the original equipment.
