Fleets don’t need a one-size-fits-all solution. Instead they need tools — in this case vehicles — that can be specifically tailored to the job at hand. To that end, GM offers a menu of options to its Chevrolet and GMC truck fleet customers, designed to meet their specific operational needs.

Upfitting Flexibility

Upfitting allows fleets to further customize their vehicles by adding aftermarket equipment to further tailor the vehicle beyond the options and equipment available from the OEM directly. GM makes the upfitting process easy for its fleet customers by including the option of a box delete across its portfolio of trucks. This includes the mid-size Colorado and Canyon, and the full-size Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500. This helps to streamline the upfit process by allowing fleets to procure vehicles that fit their exact specs delivered directly to the fleet via the OEM’s ship-thru process.

GM has a network of leading specialty vehicle manufacturers (SVM) that are selected on the merit of their upfit or conversion, financial stability, and adherence to governmental and trade association requirements. GM lists its SVM providers on its website or fleets can work directly with a Business Elite Dealer to answer questions or to find an upfitter that best meets the needs of the fleet.

Upfits from independent suppliers are not covered by the GM New Vehicle Limited Warranty, and the automaker is not responsible for independent supplier alterations.

Staying Safe & Connected

For many fleets, safety is a top-of-mind priority, and the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra lineups help fleet managers keep their drivers safe and secure whether they’re driving to a jobsite, delivering a product, or going to a service call. Among the standard safety equipment available on the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 are daytime running lights, air bags4, StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability Control System, and tire pressure monitoring. Advanced safety features5, such as Forward Collision Alert, Front and Rear Park Assist, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Low-Speed Forward Automatic Braking, OnStar® Guidance Plan6 (for three months), Rear Vision Camera, and Safety Alert Seat are standard on select trim levels. In other trim levels, these features may be available as an option. The safety belt assurance system is available in select trim levels.

The GMC Sierra 1500 includes many of the same safety equipment as the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, including standard air bags4 and tire pressure monitoring system, a rear vision camera as standard or as an available option, and available advanced safety features, such as Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Low-Speed Forward Automatic Braking, and Safety Alert Seat on select models.

All trims have additional air bags4 available as an option.

The GMC Sierra 3500HD offers a number of standard and available safety features (depending on the configuration). These include available thorax side-impact air bags4 and head curtain side-impact air bags4 for front and rear outboard seating positions, Front and Rear Park Assist5, and Hill Descent Control.

Today’s fleets also rely on connectivity. In addition to the available OnStar® service — whose features include Turn-by-Turn Navigation7, Vehicle Diagnostics8, Emergency Assistance9, and Stolen Vehicle Assistance10 — GM’s entire pickup truck lineup has available 4G LTE connectivity with available built-in Wi-Fi hotspot11 that will keep technicians and managers in contact on a jobsite or at a service call at a customer’s place of business or home. The available Commercial Link™ and Telogis telematics solutions can be added to help fleet managers route and monitor driver behavior — aiding efficiency and safety.
