The City of Grantville, Ga., had trouble finding utility trucks to meet its needs. But it needed replacement vehicles, which led to the city purchasing trucks from Colonia, Ill., over 800 miles away.

The public utility scrambled for replacement vehicles after a 1992 bucket truck failed an inspection. There were local auctions scheduled in the near future, but the city wanted something as soon as possible and the vehicles listed didn't meet their specs, reports the Newnan Times-Herald.

After debating the purchase, and discussing whether it was practical to send a vehicle out so far away for repairs, Grantville City Council approved the purchase of a bucket truck, a pole-setting truck, and a heavy-duty pickup.
