A Chicago-area food-service fleet has earned the top distinction as the area's 2015 Clean Fuel Champion as selected by the Chicago Area Clean Cities Coalition.

Testa Produce, which provides food service to restaurants, hotels, hospitals, country clubs, sports venues, and catering services, has a total of 62 vehicles, of which 20 are CNG trucks. Five of those were added to the company’s fleet in November.

The Clean Fuel Champion award was presented Dec.10 at a coalition meeting. The award is given annually to an individual, fleet, organization, or business that promotes alternative fuel, uses domestic fuel, or reduces petroleum usage. Recent award recipients include Ozinga Bros., Inc., Trillium CNG, the Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection, Groot Industries, and U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk.

Testa Produce is a family owned and operated business that began in 1912. The company’s $24-million, three-year-old, 91,300 square-foot LEED Platinum Certified facility features a wind turbine, solar panels, and a 45,000-square-foot green roof.
