The Senate on Feb. 2 approved Pete Buttigieg as the nation’s 19th U.S. transportation secretary.
While early estimates for 2019 from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show an overall decrease in highway fatalities for the third consecutive year, fatalities involving trucks over 10,000 pounds rose slightly.
A congressionally mandated report finds the future of the Interstate Highway System so at risk that it recommends that drastic action should be taken over a period of years-- including hiking federal fuel taxes and allowing tolling and per-mile-charges on more interstate routes.
