Hyundai Motor Co. hopes to add a new production line in Alabama to meet increasing demand for SUVs as the automaker is seeing demand for its Elantra and Sonata sedans slow due to lower gasoline prices, according to a Reuters report.

Hyundai is now negotiating with the state of Alabama for the new facility, sources familiar with the matter said.

Hyundai now builds its Santa Fe mid-size SUV at Kia Motors' plan in Georgia and imports the Tucson compact SUVs from Korea.
