Trucks, vans and SUVs have been driving sales to commercial fleets so far in 2014 as passenger car fleet sales have fallen sharply during the same time frame.

Sales of vehicles to commercial fleets rose 5.4 percent through the first seven months of the year, as manufacturers sold nearly 1.07 million fleet vehicles through July compared to 1.05 through the comparable 2013 period, according to Automotive Fleet data.

So far, sales of trucks, vans, and SUVs to commercial fleets are up 24.5 percent, while passenger car sales to the same customers are down 18.1 percent.

Meanwhile, sales to government fleets have been rising across the board, up 6.5 percent this year. Sales of passenger cars are up 30.6 percent, while sales of trucks, vans, and SUVs are up 31.4 percent.
