14 min to read

There’s little doubt the automotive industry is undergoing a technological transformation. This is eloquently illustrated in the all-new 2016 model-year trucks, which include the use of advanced materials and the inclusion of advanced content, such as built-in telematics and Wi-Fi hotspots designed to make drivers and the fleets for which they work more efficient.

Below is a representative sampling of Class 1-7 offerings for the 2016-MY:

Ford Motor Co.

For MY-2016, the all-new F-650/F-750 will be offered in three cab styles — Regular Cab, SuperCab, and Crew Cab — and three models — straight frame, dock height, and an all-new dedicated tractor model for heavy towing. For the first time, the MY-2016 F-650/F-750 will be offered with the Ford designed and built second-generation 6.7L Power Stroke V-8 turbo diesel engine mated to a medium-duty 6-speed TorqShift automatic transmission.

The 6.7L Power Stroke V-8 diesel is available in three power levels to provide customers the flexibility to scale engine power to their individual work applications: standard 270 hp/675 lb.-ft. torque, 300 hp/700 lb.-ft. of torque, and 330 hp/725 lb.-ft. of torque. The 6.7L Power Stroke also features a five-year/250,000-mile warranty.

In addition, the F-650/F-750 is available with a 6.8L V-10 gasoline-powered engine, which produces 330 hp and 440 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is mated to a TorqShift HD 6-speed automatic transmission. The 6.8L V-10 can be factory prepped for converting to compressed natural gas (CNG) or propane autogas.

For fleets, Ford introduced Ford Telematics powered by Telogis. The cloud-based applications are currently available for 2009 or newer models, including Super Duty and F-150 pickups, and will be available on F-650/F-750 models for the 2016 model-year.

For MY-2016, the Ford F-150 will be available with a gaseous-fuel prep package for models equipped with the 5.0L V-8 engine. The factory-installed gaseous-fuel prep package includes upgraded intake and exhaust valves and valve seats.
