Today's fuel trucks are a marvel of engineering, and they were no less so more than half-a-century ago as this 1956 Blufire Oil Co. truck upfitted by the Auto Truck Group attests.

The truck was able to haul 1,600 gallons of fuel in a three-compartment storage container fitted on a Ford 600 chassis cab truck.

Founded in 1918, the Auto Truck Group is headquartered in Bartlett, Ill.

Work Truck eNews will be featuring historic images of fleet trucks on a regular basis. If you have an historic fleet truck image you'd like to share with readers, e-mail it to Lauren Fletcher or Chris Wolski.
