Worthington Industries' lightweight, large diameter 26.2-inch compressed natural gas cylinder is designed to extend route length for refuse trucks.

It is the company’s largest Type III CNG cylinder and is designed to provide better fast-fill efficiency. It features an aluminum liner to dissipate heat during fast-filling, which allows for up to 25 percent more fuel storage compared to Type IV cylinders of similar size.

The aluminum liner also provides an added safety feature by reducing the risk of flex or fracture in the outer composite reinforcement in the event of an impact. The liner also prevents permeation, giving the cylinder a gas-tight construction

The Worthington Type III CNG cylinder is built to more stringent aircraft, railcar and watercraft CNG cylinder standards instead of typical over-the-road standards. Worthington required the cylinder to meet a minimum burst safety factor of three times the rated pressure, higher than the 2.25 times required by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard.
