Edison Electric Institute, which represents investor-owned electric companies, announced that 18 of its member utilities will deploy nearly 1,500 additional restoration workers and support personnel in early January to accelerate ongoing power restoration efforts across the island. These new personnel will work under the direction of seven incident management teams that were deployed to Puerto Rico in December 2017 to support the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority. This increases the total number of restoration workers to more than 5,500.

PPL Electric Utilities, based in Pennsylvania, began loading its line trucks and other repair vehicles for transport shortly after Christmas. The sea voyage is expected to take about a week.

Dominion Energy, based in Richmond, Va., is sending 56 pieces of equipment and restoration vehicles, which will travel by barge. Linemen, groundmen, other restoration workers, and support personnel will follow and begin work on January 15.
