Utility infrastructure dominated the International Construction and Utility Equipment Expo (ICUEE) last month, with manufacturers pointing to the pace of new activity in the renewable-energy, residential, and commercial construction markets as the driver for larger and more capable equipment.

According to Transport Topics, companies say one factor is the construction of power transmission infrastructure to carry electricity from rural wind farms to homes and businesses. Both the distance and terrain create potential challenges for utility contractors — often requiring contractors to reach higher to build towers.

Another trend seen at ICUEE was marked growth in truck orders in the utility market experienced by manufacturers such as Caterpillar.
