Isuzu Commercial Truck of America has delivered several customized FTR cabover trucks to a large landscaping fleet that included a body from Supreme Industries with a reinforced load floor and other features based on feedback from the fleet, Isuzu has announced.
Ewing Irrigation & Landscape Supply, which is based in Phoenix, took delivery of the truck from Golden Gate Truck Center in Oakland for use at its northern California location. The company is the nation's largest family-owned supplier of landscape and water management products.
The FTR featured a new chassis released earlier this year with a gross vehicle weight rating of 25,950 pounds. It's powered by a four-cylinder diesel engine with a B10 durability rating of 375,000 miles.
Supreme customized the trucks by upfitting them with a heavy-duty platform and 3/16-inch steel-over-rough-oak floor so workers can move concrete and fertilizers; stake-side flatbeds; payload securement devices; a 21-foot custom-length bed; D-rings on the bed floor; a cross-member added to the frame for strength; lift gates with foot control; and consistent applications of Ewing’s custom blue paint on the body.
"Supreme really listened to us throughout the process," said Michael Peters, Ewing's fleet manager. "I was updated on each truck's progress at three different plants across the country. Their team works together to ensure we are not only taken care of while the trucks are being built, but after the sale as well. The craftsmanship and quality of our new trucks make me proud to call them ours."
Isuzu introduced the FTR low-cab-forward truck in early 2016 to add a Class 6 cabover in its lineup.
"The FTR offers the perfect combination of payload, performance, economy and durability to meet Ewing's specific needs," said Shaun Skinner, president of Isuzu Commercial Truck of America, Inc. "It's the needs of customers like Ewing that demonstrate exactly why we brought the Class 6 FTR to market."
