FCA US is recalling 442 2015-2016 model-year Ram 1500 trucks because of potential loss of power steering assist, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

The recalled pickup trucks were manufactured from Jan. 22 to Sept. 13 in 2015. Contamination on the electric power steering (EPS) control circuit board may cause a short and result in the loss of power steering assist, according to NHTSA.

“If the vehicle experiences a loss of power steering assist, extra steering effort will be required, especially at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash,” the agency said on its website.

Dealers will replace the EPS unit, free of charge. Truck owners can reach FCA customer service at (800) 853-1403. The automaker’s number for this recall is S19.
