WASHINGTON - The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) is conducting a new road safety campaign, dubbed “Operation Safe Driver,” Oct. 21-28. The program’s aim is to improve commercial and non-commercial driver behavior and performance through more effective enforcement and education. CVSA said 12 percent of the fatal crashes on highways in the United States involve trucks and buses.

According to a report in Today’s Trucking, the goals of the Operation Safe Driver campaign are to:
  • Increase commercial vehicle traffic enforcement efforts.
  • Increase non-commercial vehicle traffic enforcement efforts.
  • Increase safety belt enforcement efforts.
  • Increase driver roadside inspections.
  • Increase driver regulatory compliance.
  • Implement commercial driver educational and awareness programs.
  • Increase public awareness about safe operations around commercial motor vehicles.
