Following a year of real-world testing with commercial truck fleets across the U.S., Continental Tire the Americas, LLC kicked off sales of its ContiPressureCheck system at this year’s Mid-America Trucking Show.

Continental’s Commercial Vehicle Tire business unit officially launched its tire pressure monitoring system for commercial trucks at the Continental pavilion, where it combined forces for the second year with the Commercial Vehicles & Aftermarket business unit to demonstrate products and solutions that lower the overall driving costs for fleets, the company said.

ContiPressureCheck, first demonstrated at the 2012 Mid-America event, has undergone extensive testing at fleets throughout the U.S., said Clif Armstrong, director of marketing for truck tires, the Americas. “Today, our distribution channels for this system are fully in place and we are ready to open sales of this system to our customers nationwide. Whether you are an owner-operator, a small fleet or a large trucking operation, ContiPressureCheck is ready to start adding value to your operation and safeguarding your tire investment,” Armstrong said.

The ContiPressureCheck system, jointly developed by the Commercial Vehicle Tire, Body and Security and Commercial Vehicles & Aftermarket business units, utilizes sensors mounted inside the tires to provide accurate temperature and pressure readings. Alerts and warnings are displayed inside the cab, and the system can be used for tractors, trailers or in combination.

“The ContiPressureCheck system saves drivers and fleets both time and money, by alerting the driver of sudden inflation deviations as well as slow air losses to the tire. By correcting these issues before the tire requires replacement, fleets and drivers can prevent vehicle downtime, extend the tread life of their tires and protect their valuable casing investment. Proper tire inflation also reduces rolling resistance of the tire, and in turn, fuel consumption. So from both a maintenance and fuel saving perspective, the investment in ContiPressureCheck reduces overall driving costs,” Armstrong explained.

Continental research also indicates that optimal tire inflation increases stopping distance and optimizes vehicle control, Armstrong said.

The ContiPressureCheck system can be ordered directly from representatives in the Continental booth, through a Continental truck tire dealer, or via the national account customer order desk. For small fleets or owner operators, ContiPressureCheck can be obtained by calling operators for Continental’s emergency road service programs TrukFix, ContiFleet and TrukFix for OOIDA. All Continental emergency road service programs can be reached by calling 877-TRUKFIX.
