Officials at the City of Lake Station, Ind., continue to debate on the city’s refuse plan — city council recently voted to keep refuse collection in house rather than outsource it, NWI Times reported.

The aging refuse fleet requires costly repairs, and there is no funding to purchase the necessary new vehicles.

Those supporting outsourcing said this would have allowed services to continue without a rate increase. Those who opposed said keeping it in house is best for the city in the long term as it provides more control over waste services.
