Fueling is among the most time-consuming and inefficient operation for local and over-the-road truck fleets, robbing companies of up to an hour of precious employee and truck operation time per week.

This is where Atlas Oil comes in. Since 1985, the Taylor, Mich.-headquartered company has been offering onsite fueling and diesel emission fluid (DEF) refills to a variety of national and local fleets.

“If you have a driver waiting in a fueling line, that can waste an hour or more,” said Chad Wenzel, VP of sales for Atlas Oil Co. “And, that translates not only into the costs of the drivers wages, but also downtime of the truck, which is non-productive time.”

According to Work Truck’s sister website, Truckinginfo.com, individual truck fueling costs an additional $3,250 per truck each year.

Atlas’ concept is to offer fueling services for fleets en masse at off-peak hours. Client fleets come in all shapes and sizes ranging from Class 3 medium-duty trucks to Class 8 over-the-road trucks. Among the company’s national clients are FedEx and Waste Management.

According to the company, onsite fueling offers a number of advantages to fleets, in addition to freeing up employees from this time-consuming task and being more operationally efficient, including enhancing budgeting and forecasting through truck-to-office technology and maintaining safety and adherence to regulations is made much easier by onsite fleet fueling because it is delivered by highly trained professionals who understand how to handle the fuel.

The company’s fleet of 220 medium-duty trucks consists of Class 5 and 6 Freightliner and Daimler models. According to Wenzel most of the fleet is new, upfit with 3,000-5,000 gallon tanks that can dispense both vehicle fuel and DEF fluid.

The ability to provide both fuel and DEF from the same truck is among the biggest changes that Atlas has seen in the last few years, according to Wenzel.

Atlas Oil has 500 employees and operates throughout the contiguous 48 U.S. states.
