MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO – A recent survey by commercial auto insurer Progressive found that while 69 percent of truckers view fuel costs as their most pressing business expense, 41 percent say they’ve no steps to address the issue.

Strategies truckers have used to offset rising fuel costs include:

  • Downsizing staff (16 percent).
  • Lengthening workdays (12 percent).
  • Taking fewer vacation days (8 percent).

While insurance is also a concerning business expense, the survey found that truckers don’t shop for better rates very often. Nearly half say they haven’t shopped for insurance in more than a year. A quarter that admit they haven’t shopped in more than three years, if ever.
