Southern California Truck Drivers Crown Regional Champs
SAN BERNARDINO, CA - On April 21, 2012, the California Trucking Association (CTA) held the Southern Regional Competition as part of the 64th Annual California Truck Driving Championships.
SAN BERNARDINO, CA - On April 21, 2012, the California Trucking Association (CTA) held the Southern Regional Competition as part of the 64th Annual California Truck Driving Championships. This year’s competition saw more than 450 of the best truck drivers compete at the San Manuel Stadium.
"Driving a truck each and every day requires a great amount of skill and exposes professional drivers to numerous challenging situations," said Scott Blevins, President of Mountain Valley Express and 2012 CTA President. "The Truck Driving Championships showcase the best of the best in the industry."
"The Southern Regional competition is the first step to the state championship and the national championship where California has a chance to defend its claim to the National Truck Driving Champion," boasted Rodney Farley, a Safety Supervisor for Covenant Transportation and Chair for the 2012 Southern Regional competition. "In 2011, Conway Freight driver Paul Phillips beat out drivers from across the nation to claim the title of National Champion and raised the bar for all professional drivers."
Established in California by California Trucking Association in 1948, the California Truck Driving Championships (CTDC) provides professional truck drivers an opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge that make them leaders in the industry.
At the regional level in the North and South, the competition consists of a driving skills test. Competitors are tested on their ability to maneuver their vehicle through six scenarios designed to simulate conditions that truck drivers encounter every day.
There are nine different classes of competition from package delivery vans to tanker trucks with the top three winners in each class moving onto the State Championships on May 20 in Sacramento. State competition winners are eligible to compete in the American Trucking Associations’ National Truck Driving Championships that are being held in Minneapolis, Minn. on August 7-11, 2012.
