DETROIT - Recently, notable publications and organizations have recognized General Motors vehicles for overall quality, safety, and engine performance. Among those named are cars and trucks important in meeting GM Fleet and Commercial Operations customers' broad range of needs.
Consumers Digest, IntelliChoice, and U.S. News & World Report selected many of the popular GM Fleet and Commercial vehicles for overall quality awards and recognition. Beyond quality recognition, vehicles from the GM Fleet and Commercial product portfolio were also highlighted for their top-of-the-line safety standards and engine performance - all of which improve the fleet and commercial customer's experience.
"The recognition GM vehicles have received serve as excellent proof points to the strength and value of our product offerings," said Brian Small, executive director, General Motors Fleet and Commercial Operations. "This, combined with the expertise of our team of fleet professionals and the finest dealer network in the industry, enables us to find the right solutions for our customers."
Two popular trucks in the GM Fleet and Commercial product lineup, Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra, swept the full-size truck segment in IntelliChoice's Best Overall Value of the Year awards. The Chevy Silverado 2500 HD and the GMC Sierra 2500 HD were also awarded Best Truck Value Over $28,000 in one of IntelliChoice's nine overall categories. Another popular GM Fleet and Commercial vehicle recognized as a leader in its segment, the Chevrolet Express 1500 LS and LT Passenger Wagon (AWD and RWD), won in the Full-Size Van category. The IntelliChoice Best Overall Values for 2010 are designed to aid buyers in identifying the vehicles that deliver the most value for their money over a five year period of ownership.
As another proof point of value, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Malibu and GMC Sierra 1500, among the top sellers for GM Fleet and Commercial, were included in Consumers Digest annual 2010 Best Buy rankings. Other popular fleet and commercial vehicles named include Chevrolet Tahoe and Traverse, GMC Acadia and Yukon, and Buick Enclave. Also recognized were traditionally executive fleet vehicles the Cadillac SRX and CTS, and the Buick LaCrosse. Lastly, performance fleet vehicles, the Chevrolet Camaro, and Corvette, rounded out the list.
U.S. News and World Report selected the GMC Terrain, new to the fleet and commercial lineup, as one of its Best Cars to Buy for 2010, specifically noting its excellent fuel economy and impressive 32 mpg highway rating. The publication also highlighted the Terrain's value package in the class of affordable compact SUVs, with its exterior design and interior features, including the standard rearview camera and a sliding rear seat.
"GM's mission is to design, build and sell the world's best vehicles and I think these recognitions show our fleet and commercial customers that we are serious about this goal and can provide them with a wide-range of quality vehicles," said Small.
GM Fleet and Commercial vehicles were also celebrated for safety measures. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Pick in 2010 award went to both the Chevrolet Malibu in the Midsize Car category and the Buick LaCrosse in the Large Car category. This award recognized vehicles that perform the best in the Institute's tests of protecting people in front, side, rear and rollover crashes.
GM engineers' attention to detail resulted in one of the top 10 best performing engines for fleet and commercial customers as awarded by the editors at Ward's Auto World. The GM 2.41 DOHC Ecotec I-4 engine, found in the Chevrolet Equinox and the GMC Terrain, were recognized at the 2010 10 Best Engines event. Over the course of two months, six editors evaluated 34 vehicles from 13 auto makers in their everyday driving cycles in metro Detroit. The Ecotec I-4 engine was awarded based on its cam-driven high-pressure fuel pump, continuously variable valve timing, precise sand-cast engine block and pistons with jet-spray cooling.
